As the HR Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day HR operations for a fast-growing and innovative high tech startup. You will also be essential to VIA’s recruitment efforts, with a focus on hiring, developing, and engaging top talent. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a mastery of HR best practices, and a passion for implementing them within a dynamic organization.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Drive continual improvement of business operations and team productivity by recommending new policies and procedures
    • Manage the implementation and ongoing validation of HR policies for the Montreal-based technical office
    • Oversee the benefits program and propose new ideas based on team needs and marketplace trends
    • Manage VIA’s participation and compliance in local tax programs, government aid programs, and legal federal / state regulations
    • Organize company-wide offsites, holiday celebrations, and other events
  • Establish a professional learning and development program for the Montreal team
    • Work closely with the Director, Data Science and Technology to define and track key metrics of program success across the company and with individual team members
    • Identify and propose talent management platforms (e.g., ClearCompany) to internal stakeholders with cost / benefit analysis
  • Work closely with the Director, Data Science and Technology to grow the Montreal team
    • Create an efficient and effective recruitment process with input from internal stakeholders. This will include writing job descriptions and defining hiring criteria for each position
    • Improve on-boarding process for new hires that reflects VIA’s values and implements HR best practices for high employee retention and engagement
    • Collaborate with marketing team to research, manage, and coordinate relevant recruitment and public relations opportunities for VIA

To be a high impact team member, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in human resources and 5+ years experience in a HR role
  • Expertise in designing HR policies, processes, and programs
  • Hands-on experience with on-boarding and professional development best practices
  • General knowledge of the Montreal market in terms of regulations, recruitment, benefits, and other relevant aspects
  • Experience attending and planning recruiting events
  • The following qualifications are a plus:
    • HR designation or certification, such as the CHRP designation
    • Success in creating and driving effective team development, team member relations, retention, and reward initiatives
